Natural Bamboo Installation Instructions
Material should be thoroughly inspected prior to
installation. Any materials installed
with obvious defects will not be warranted.
Note: Color variation is not considered a defect. This is a natural product.
Pre-Installation
General considerations:
Area to be installed, temperature and humidity must be brought to normal
living conditions for at least 48 hours before installation and maintained at
this level during and after installation.
Flooring and all supplies should be allowed to acclimate on site for 48
hours before installation. The bamboo
should be unpacked and stacked in small piles during this time. There should be no more than a 3% difference
between the sub floor moisture content and the bamboo flooring. The wood subfloor moisture level must not exceed
12%. If installing on a concrete slab,
the slab must be at least 60 days old.
The moisture content of the concrete slab must not exceed 3 pounds per
1000 square feet in a 24 hour period. Use a calcium chloride test is the only
affirmative way to test. Refer to the
National Wood Flooring Associations hand book if you need further information
on procedures to test floors for moisture. A MOISTURE TEST MUST BE PERFORMED AND RECORDED
FOR WARRANTY.
Floor Layout: Decide
which way to lay the flooring: gluing method or nailing method.
The flooring may be nailed or glued down over wood sub
floors, or glued directly to a concrete floor.
Preparation
The sub floor surface must be smooth, dry and clean of all
dirt, wax oil, paint, curing agents, and any other contaminants that would
interfere with the adhesive bond. Wood
sub floors must be sanded level prior to new installation. Concrete sub floors must have all crack and
holes filled with a cement-based patching material.
Installation
Nail down method:
Planks should be started square with a room and parallel to
its longest dimension. The beginning
three rows should be marked with a chalk line leaving 5/8 inch(thickness of one
board) expansion space away from all walls and obstacles. Ensure starter rows are firmly in place by
wedging or face nailing. Once initial
rows are secure, forth and further rows shall be blind nailed directly above
tongue at a 45-50 degree angle to the face.
Nails should be spaced at 10-12 inch intervals with a minimum of 2 per
piece, 3 per full length.
Glue down method:
We require using a
moisture cured urethane adhesive. Follow
the recommended trowel size for bamboo from the glue manufacturer. Planks should be started square with the room
and parallel to its longest dimension. Leave at least a 5/8 inch around the walls and obstacles for
expansion. Use a chalk line to mark the
initial 3 rows. Ensure starter rows are
firmly in space by wedging or face nailing.
Once the rows are cut and test laid, apply the adhesive in a wet-lay
method.
Apply
adhesive to the sub floor with the adhesive manufactures recommended trowel
size. Follow the glue manufactures instructions for drying times. Remove all excess adhesive as you
install, you will not be able to remove
it once it has dried. Do not use water
to remove the wet adhesive.
