Natural Bamboo Gluedown Instructions
Material should be thoroughly inspected prior to
installation. Any materials installed
with obvious defects will not be warranted.
Note: Color variation is not considered a defect. This is a natural product.
Installing bamboo over concrete:
- When
installing on a concrete slab, the slab must be at least 60 days old.
- The
moisture content of the concrete slab must not exceed 3 pounds per 1000
square feet in a 24 hour period. A Tramex reading of 3 or more always means
a calcium chloride test must be used to determine moisture content.
- Use a
calcium chloride test is the only affirmative way to test. Refer to the National Wood Flooring
Associations hand book if you need further information on procedures to
test floors for moisture.
- Press
wood into adhesive. Occasionally check the back of a board for adequate
adhesive transfer.
- Avoid
foot traffic for 24 hours after installation.
- Do not
cover floor for 48 hours.
- Write
down and keep the moisture test results for future reference.
Glue down method:
We require using moisture cured urethane adhesive. Follow the recommended trowel size for bamboo
from the glue manufacturer. Planks
should be started square with the room and parallel to its longest
dimension. Leave at least a 5/8 inch around the walls and obstacles for
expansion. Use a chalk line to mark the
initial 3 rows. Ensure starter rows are
firmly in space by wedging or face nailing.
Confirm the area to be installed, adhesive and flooring are at
65°F (18°C) or above for 48 hours before, during and 48 hours after
installation. Subfloors must be flat within 3/16. in 10 ft. or 1/8. in 6 ft.
Fill low spots with a Portland cement-based leveling compound with a minimum
compressive strength of 3000 psi and allow to dry. For commercial applications,
the compressive strength should be a minimum of 3500 psi. Subfloor must be
smooth, sound, dry, clean and free of excessive moisture and/or alkali. Remove
dirt, wax, polish, paint, and all other foreign matter which may interfere in a
good bond, including curing agents and sealers. All loose subfloor boards must
be renailed or properly bonded to create a sound subfloor. Moisture test
results must not exceed 3 pounds/1000 sq ft/24 hours. A Tramex reading of 3 or
more mean a calcium chloride test must be used to determine moisture content.
